De toepassing van datawetenschappen in de gezondheidszorg biedt mogelijkheden op verschillende vlakken: het verhogen van de effectiviteit en kwaliteit van de zorg voor de patiënt, een betere gezondheid voor de bevolking in het algemeen en een daling van de kosten.Met Big Data kunnen ongeziene hoeveelheden informatie verwerkt worden om nieuwe patronen te ontdekken. Beter gebruik van gezondheidsgerelateerde gegevens kan helpen om ziektes beter te begrijpen, betere diagnoses te stellen, therapieën te evalueren en nieuwe te ontwikkelen… Hiervoor moeten medische gegevens beschikbaar zijn op zodanige wijze dat de identiteit van de patiënt niet te achterhalen is.Het evenwicht tussen bescherming van persoonsgegevens enerzijds en het creëren van kansen voor onderzoek en productontwikkeling anderzijds is cruciaal. De huidige EU-richtlijn (General Data Protection Regulation) tracht deze twee doelstellingen te verzoenen. Het ontbreekt nu echter nog aan een wetgevend kader voor het ter beschikking stellen van medische data op een betrouwbare, transparante wijze en met respect voor de privacy van de patiënt. Dit Standpunt formuleert aanbevelingen voor het toekomstige beleid inzake big data in de gezondheidszorg.

Energy data often is critical data which can negatively affect users' privacy. Therefore, this work presents a user-oriented energy data management system which does not only comply with technical requirements but also lives up to users' demands in terms of privacy and data protection.
